 director/sustainability

As the Sustainability Committee of the NEWH, Inc. Board creates and develops new initiatives for NEWH, these initiatives will need to be implemented on the chapter level. The role of the Sustainability Director is to be the “point person” for communication from the Committee regarding such initiatives, and to be the “champion” for such initiatives on the chapter level.

The Sustainability Director is a voting position on the Board and will report to the Vice President/Administration. This Director will be a liaison to the Sustainability Committee of the NEWH, Inc. Board.

 responsibilities:

A primary responsibility of the Sustainability Director will be to ensure that a consistent and accurate message be presented to the chapter regarding the position of NEWH on “Sustainability”. The Sustainability Director will also assist each of the other disciplines in inserting Sustainability initiatives into ongoing activities. For example, they will:

  • Assist the Programming Director in developing relevant programming and education events
  • Assist the Community Service Director in implementing any initiatives adopted by the Committee
  • Assist the Membership Director in recruiting membership from other Sustainability-driven programs, events, efforts, etc.
  • Assist the Publications and PR
 initiatives:
Currently, the initiatives of the Sustainability Committee, and therefore the initiatives to
be promoted on the Chapter level are:
  • Sustainability Resource Directory
  • InnCycle (the promotion/facilitation of reuse of Hotel furnishings)
  • NEWH’s participation in industry events related to Sustainability
  • Sustainable Hospitality Scholarships
  • Educational programs related to Sustainability
  • Webinars for CEU Credit
  • Leadership Forums
  • Online Auction
  • Carbon Offset program
  • Identification of manufacturers in a 500 mile radius from each chapter
  • Other initiatives that will develop as the Sustainability Committee develops
